THE LABORATORY

Laboratory's building (Δ4 0.21)

The Robotics Laboratory was founded in November 1990 at the department of Production Engineering and Management of Technical University of Crete. In November 2002 the Robotics Laboratory was renamed to Intelligent Systems and Robotics Laboratory (IS&RL). Founder and first director was Professor Kimon P. Valavanis. IS&RL serves the teaching and research demands of the Production Systems section, participates in Greek and international research projects and exchanges know-how between industries and educational institutions in Greece and abroad.

Objectives

The objectives of the laboratory are:

  • To offer teaching services to students of graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • To function as a research and development centre, capable of attracting research projects in collaboration with other institutes, governmental, educational, European or not, as also to exchange know-how with industries.
  • To provide theoretical and applied knowledge in the Intelligent Systems and Machines topics.
The main objective of the laboratory is the participation in the design of future intelligent systems, with emphasis in systems, which are capable of operating in particularly hostile and unstable environments, without human guidance and interaction.
